At less than three months old, McKinley was diagnosed with CDKL5, a rare genetic disorder that has presented her with a unique set of challenges her entire life. McKinley’s journey has been a testament to unwavering resilience and relentless determination.

For 2026, we’re working on making the following purchases:

1. Special Needs Car Seats for McKinley: we’ll need to get 2 car seats in the next year for her. The first one, the Hercules Swivel car seat, we’ll attempt to get insurance approval. It’s about a 50/50 chance of getting it approved. The cost is $5,000 for the seat and if approved, our 20% co-pay would $1,000. We also want to get her a second car seat for flying. We’re looking at the Special Tomato Soft-Touch Booster Car Seat, which is $800.

2. Huckleberry Cascade Tandem Hiking Cart: we would love to get McKinley outdoors more, but that is something can be tricky with her wheelchair and stroller. Although we have a hiking carrier, that is becoming harder to use as McKinley grows. This hiking cart would allow us to take McKinley on more adventures, like hiking trails, with the support she needs and less back strain on us. The cart with accessories costs $3,265.
