My journey begins when my kidney doctor referred me to Mayo for an evaluation for a Kidney transplant. You see, due to my diabetes and a rare family kidney disease, my kidneys took a drastic turn and I needed a new one in order to keep living.

My evaluation went smoothly, my case was presented to the committee at Mayo to be placed on the donor list. I was accepted! That same day, June 28th,2023. I also received a call letting me know that I was a candidate for an end of care living kidney recipient. Two days later it was confirmed, pre-ops were scheduled, and the transplant surgery was scheduled. Within 10 days of that call I had a new kidney!

Since that transplant I have had two admittances to the Mayo hospital for an infection that finally was found and treated.

The whole process from the beginning to now was so much quicker than I thought it would be.
