Help Mellie get back on her feet and back to the beach

Melissa Erickson continues to regain her strength and walk a little farther every day as she awaits a bilateral lung transplant to counter the damage done by COVID-19 pneumonia. On behalf of Mellie and her husband Carl, we’re asking friends and family to join us in fundraising for Help Hope Live to help with the monumental costs of her recuperation.

For six months, Melissa has bravely battled in the face of the colossal challenges presented by COVID-19 pneumonia and resulting pulmonary embolisms. She has persevered through sepsis and multiple infections while intubated, ventilated, and ultimately on a long stint on ECMO.

Despite it all, she has persisted, but she still has a long road to travel. Melissa was recently transferred from AdventHealth in Orlando, FL, to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, IL, to replace her lungs that have been overwhelmed by the effects of COVID-19.

Melissa and Carl are fighters and unceasingly kind souls who could really use your support. With Carl traveling back and forth between their home in New Smyrna Beach, FL and Melissa’s bedside in Chicago, you can imagine the daunting price of her rehabilitation and the couple’s living expenses. We’d like to relieve them of the additional stress of these financial burdens, so Melissa only has to worry about getting back her health and getting home to her dogs, her career as an occupational therapist, and her sunrise beach walks with the love of her life.

Mellie is on the path to recovery, and we are looking forward to her thriving and telling the story of her triumph over this devastating disease, but she and Carl need every bit of assistance they can get.
