Melody Locke

Melody was born and raised in Tahoka, Texas by her grandparents, Martin and Nancy Edwards. She worked as a cosmetologist in Lubbock for a couple of years. Soon after, Melody and her husband, Roger Locke, moved back to Tahoka to raise their family of five children. For 14 years, they were active members of the First United Methodist Church of Tahoka. Melody held a lead role in the youth and children ministry at church, volunteered with Tahoka Band Boosters, Little League, and Tahoka Athletic Boosters.

In 2014, Melody and her family moved to Waldron, Arkansas to be closer to Roger’s grandfather, Denver Merryman. After moving to Waldron, Melody worked at Dollar General for about 2 years and faithfully attended New Life Center until the pandemic hit. During COVID-19 pandemic, Melody sewed masks and distributed most of them for free to anyone who needed one.

Everything came to a stop in July of 2022. Melody was diagnosed with Pulmonary Fibrosis. Her transplant team stated that her lung function was decreasing very rapidly, at approximately 20% per year and she needs a double lung transplant to survive. Melody has never smoked, yet her lungs are dying.

She has one wish, to see her grandchildren grow up.
