Mia Ruthey

Mia Ruthey is a dedicated teacher at United Township High School who several years ago was diagnosed with Primary Lateral Sclerosis — a rare form of ALS. During the summer of 2009 she traveled with her son, Noah, to Qingdao, China and received her first stem cell transplant treatment. Since then, she traveled to Nanjing in 2010, Shijijuang in 2011, and back to Qingdao last year. Then she was sent by BeikeBiotech to Bangkok, Thailand and had another successful trip and treatment in June of 2013.

Mia continues to see the benefits of the stem cell therapy as she is able to speak clearer, walk with greater ease and have better balance. Modern medicine has nothing to offer as this disease is progressive, rare and incurable. Mia feels her only choice is to head back to China, so she can continue to feel better and have the energy and stamina to continue teaching and mothering Noah. Her quality of life has changed since her trip abroad, and she is grateful for all the support she has received.

These treatments are life-changing, but not covered by Mia’s insurance.
