Michael Bartolo

We are writing on behalf of our son Michael Bartolo. Michael is a Purple Heart recipient from having sustained injuries during his combat tour of duty in Afghanistan in 2011.

Tragically not long after his discharge and return home, 10 years ago on Sept. 6, 2013, Michael was critically injured in a motorcycle accident in his home town of Staten Island, NY. He sustained a Traumatic Brain Injury and was in a coma for close to three months. After emerging from the coma, he is now unable to speak and is totally incapacitated as a result of the accident. We are not sure of what his is aware of. He is now in a long term rehabilitation hospital in New Jersey where he will remain for the rest of his life.

In 2016, we purchased a Van that enables us to take Michael home everyday for 5-6 hours and do this 7 days a week. We were recently provided a Hoya Patient Lift for our home which will enable us to take him our of his wheelchair.

We have been managing Michael’s care and day to day affairs since the day of the accident. As a result, we have incurred a countless number of expenses not covered by insurance.

The reason we started this fund raiser is we need to purchase a Medical Recliner (not covered by insurance) which was recommended by his therapist which will aid in his comfort at home. The chair is so he does not have to sit in his limited padded wheelchair all day
