Family and friends of Michael (Mikey) Chavez are raising money for the nonprofit Help Hope Live to fund uninsured medical expenses associated with Mikey kidney disease.
Michael (Mikey) Chavez has been battling kidney disease and after being medically stable for two years, his kidney function is now down to 12 % and he needs a kidney transplant. The INTEGRIS Nazih Zuhdi Transplant Institute of Oklahoma City requires all patients to show they have the money ready to pay for it. He has been on Hemodialysis for two years and we are very anxious for that transplant!
Mikey is hopeful that he can get a transplant from any donor as soon as possible so he will be healthy for the transplant surgery and recovery. A kidney transplant is his best hope for a long life.
Mikey is a brother, uncle and great uncle and loving puppies, his family tries their best to help him the best they can. After suffering a stroke in 2018 leaving him with a weak right side of body and then kidney failure he has been unable to return to work.
Transplants, while lifesaving is very expensive. While struggling to pay for hemodialysis currently. Even with insurance which still doesn’t cover 100%, there are many other expenses that need to be paid out of pocket including co-pays, deductibles, travel to INTEGRIS Nazih Zuhdi OKC and motel expense for the required weeks long stay post-surgery, and the costly anti-rejection medications that Mikey will have to take for the rest of his life. His family, Greg (brother) also must miss work when Mikey goes to appointments, he maintains the home for this family and Mikey and needs help, as well.
To help with the financial burden of Mikey’’ uninsured expenses, a fundraising campaign in his honor has been established with Help Hope Live, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years.
