Dear Family and Friends:

As some of you may know, I have been diagnosed with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and emphysema after operating a dry cleaning business for 26 years. My breathing has become labored and even simple tasks can be burdensome for me. My condition has progressed to the point that I must have a lung transplant in order to save my life. I am currently on the transplant list at the University of California-San Francisco Medical Center and anxiously await receiving this transplant.

As you may imagine, transplantation is an extremely costly undertaking. My health insurance covers 80 percent of the cost of this surgery, but I am responsible for the other 20 percent. Thereafter, there are many additional costs in post-operative care, including special housing with nursing aide assistance to monitor my recovery, the required immunosuppressant medications and much, much more. In addition, I will undergo my transplant in San Francisco and my doctors have told me I am not allowed to re-cross a bridge for 90 days after the two week hospital stay, which is why I am required to relocate to San Francisco.

I have a great need for financial help. I need to raise $20,000 before we can proceed with the transplant surgery and the transplant team recommended that I do fundraising to fund my operation.

To that end, a fundraising campaign in my honor has been established with HelpHOPELive (formerly NTAF), a non-profit organization that has been successfully assisting the transplant community for nearly 30 years. All donations are tax deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the Southwest Lung Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only.
