Help Save Mike’s Life!

In January of 2016, my husband Mike Feltner fell extremely ill. At first, we thought it was just a cold; but we quickly learned that he was facing end-stage-renal disease, or kidney failure. Since his diagnosis, our lives have centered around doctor appointments, clinic visits with the nurse and extensive medical testing. Mike has been told that his only chance at survival and a healthy future is to undergo a lifesaving kidney transplant. Hopefully, once all of his evaluations are complete, Mike will be placed on the active transplant waiting list.

We are fortunate to have an amazing family member who has offered to be Mike’s living kidney donor and we pray that all of the donor testing will come back with positive results. If Mike has to wait for a donor it could be a minimum of four years before he receives his transplant.

So, I know that so many people these days are asking to help and we appreciate everything that anyone and everyone has done for us. Even with health insurance, Mike will have many uninsured transplant-related expenses such as: co-pays and deductibles, doctor and clinic visits, and the costly anti-rejection medications that he will need to take for the rest of his life. At this time, I am working only 10 hours per week at my local church who has blessed me with a small income. As Mike’s full-time caregiver, I am very limited in my work hours and once he has his transplant surgery, I will need to discontinue this job as I am expected to temporarily stay close to the hospital. Our monthly financial resources are very limited, and Mike’s disability income will not cover his out-of-pocket transplant and medical expenses.

To help offset such expenses, a fundraising campaign in Mike’s honor has been established with Help Hope Live, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax-deductible to the full extent allowed by law, are held by Help Hope Live in the Great Lakes Kidney Transplant Fund, and are administered by Help Hope Live for transplant-related expenses only.
