Michael Kernahan

Most of you know Michael’s story but for those of you who don’t below is a brief summary:
On Sunday July 26th Michael Kernahan was playing in the surf at Perdido Key Beach while on a family vacation. Diving into one wave he hit the sandy bottom causing his head to snap back. With the help of good Samaritans he was carried to the beach. 911 was called and Michael was life flighted to Baptist Hospital. Shortly after arriving at the emergency room he was diagnosed with a shattered C6 vertebra in his neck and sent into surgery. After spending a week in the hospital Michael was flown on a medical flight to Atlanta where he was admitted to The Shepherd Center, a spinal cord rehab facility. Upon his admission Michael had no movement to his right leg and minimal control of his right arm. The left side of his body was and continues to this day to be stronger than his right side. With the grace of God Michael has far exceeded his doctors initial prognoses. Currently he is walking with the help of a cane and has the goal of regaining his balance/strength enough to make it through a complete day at school. His biggest deficit at this point is the limited use of his right hand. He will be returning to the Slidell area soon to continue his therapy.
