My Story
I was diagnosed with lupus and kidney disease together in April 2001, after years of signs I didn’t recognize. By then, I’d already lost significant kidney function. I’ve started down the transplant path before and had to stop until I had a reliable caregiver in place. Now I do, and I’m going all in. The last piece is money.

I restore cars, design and 3D-print parts, and produce music. I earned my audio engineering degree in 2022, while managing all of this. I’m happiest on horseback, in good conversation, or at a quiet wilderness campsite. A transplant means getting back energy and independence, and moving from survival mode to living with intention.

Why I’m Asking
Testing, travel to Portland, surgery, medications, and recovery add up fast, and insurance doesn’t cover all of it. My caregiver will also be taking time off work to see me through recovery. Funds raised here are administered by Help Hope Live for approved transplant expenses, including:

• Evaluations and testing

• Travel and lodging for me and my caregiver

• My caregiver’s lost wages during recovery

• Medications and medical supplies

• Other verifiable recovery expenses

Could You Help With a Kidney?

I’m blood type O+. Here’s the catch with O: we can only receive a kidney from another O, but O donors can give to almost anyone. So kidneys from O donors get shared widely, and people like me tend to wait the longest.

But you don’t have to be type O, or a match at all, to help me.

Through the National Kidney Registry’s paired exchange, your kidney goes to someone it fits, and their donor’s kidney comes to me. One gift sets off another. Sometimes a single donor starts a chain that saves several lives.

Your evaluation and surgery are covered by my Medicare, not you, and donors are protected through NKR’s Donor Shield program.
