He’s always quick with a sarcastic joke and a ready smile. He’s given to those in need. Unfortunately he now finds himself as the person in need.

Mike is only 50 years old and has dealt with more than his fair share of problems.

At only 31, he was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy & mitro-valve regurgitation and knew that somewhere in the future he would need a heart transplant. Before that would happen he would have two pacemakers and two Lvad’s (left ventricular assist device) and three cavity clean outs.

But in 2016, he received the gift of a new heart.

That should be where the story ends but during the operation, his kidneys shut down temporarily. And so started the constant monitoring of their function.

The time has now come where he has spent over a week in the Hospital of University Pennsylvania. They’ve decided it’s time to be placed on dialysis three times a week and to be placed on the kidney transplant list. His blood type is B+. The list is long and can take years to get.

There is a program where if someone wants to donate a kidney, even if they don’t have his blood type, can donate in his name and he will be moved to the top of the list.

Unfortunately with this new diagnosis, it is career ending for him and will take a few months for the disability paperwork to go thru and be approved.
