Go Miles Go!

Miles is our almost 6-year-old amazing guy who has overcome many obstacles and done so many amazing things in his life so far. It’s hard to believe what he went through when he was so young. He does things differently than others, but he works hard to be involved and do his best at everything he does.

Until recently, Kari and Miles would make the trek in the wheelchair van to Los Angeles (a drive about 18 hours one way) and stay in an AirBnB so he could take part in intensive therapy for 3 weeks at a time at the NAPA Center. His therapists did amazing things for him and introduced some cool ways to help him. We saw a very impressive improvement in his abilities after each intensive.

We heard a lot about a device known as Trexo, lovingly referred to as “robot legs”, that could be used as part of his therapy. NAPA in Los Angeles had a Trexo device and Kari was able to sign him up for time with it. He not only loved walking with it, but was able to take some great assisted steps that he could start himself. He even had dance parties with the Trexo tech while strolling around the NAPA parking lot in his “robot legs”.

It might sound like the Trexo is just a fun thing for him to have, but research with cerebral palsy patients have shown that robot-assisted gait training leads to improvement in walking abilities. There are also cardiovascular and bone benefits from being able to do weight-bearing exercise with the Trexo device. His therapists feel that his trunk tone will improve while using the Trexo, leading to more stability while walking and standing.

We will do anything to help our little man. He is at the point now where he is ready to really focus on walking but still needs some extra help. This is where the Trexo device comes into play. He is involved with NAPA in Denver now, but they do not have a Trexo. Kari and I believe that he will benefit from a personal Trexo device more than we can even imagine.

There have been so many people who have followed his story and showed love for him near and far. In fact, he has people who have sent love and support from the other side of the world!
