Nabor Rodriguez

Family and friends of Nabor Rodriguez are raising money for the nonprofit Help Hope Live to fund uninsured medical expenses associated with a Transplant. Nabor has chosen to fundraise with Help Hope Live in part because donations are tax deductible for contributors and will only be used to cover medical and related expenses.

2023 was the year that our world was turned upside down. We learned that my father was diagnosed with stage five kidney failure. He needed a kidney transplant or to start dialysis quickly or we could lose him before the end of the year. We got the news that my brother was a perfect match. The big surgery was scheduled for December 22. Everything seemed to be lining up for my dad. We all entered the hospital at 4:30 am on December 22. We received news around 12 pm that they had both come out perfectly fine, thank the Lord. While in recovery, the doctors did not like our dad’s numbers and said that the new kidney was functioning as if it had come from a deceased donor and not like a living donor, like he had received. So they decided to go in a second time to make sure the connections were functioning properly. The following day everything seemed like it was going great. My brother recovered well and was sent home, but then we got bad news. My dad was having a heart attack. They had to take him into surgery immediately and they put three stents in the arteries around his heart. He was in the ICU for 11 days. He recovered and was released from the hospital so we finally were able to go home. We thought he was in the clear but no, things took another turn. His right leg was swollen and while the doctors said it was common for that to happen, my dad was hurting so much I took him to the ER. They admitted him and did a CT scan and confirmed we was bleeding out. We were all heart broken. They had to immediately take him into surgery to find the source of the bleeding. The doctors were not able to save my brothers kidney that he donated to our dad so we’re back to square one. My dad has now started dialysis and he has to recover from all the surgeries he had during those two weeks. In addition, he will need to be matched with a new kidney. I ask that all my family and friends please pray for our family, especially my dad who is a very hard working, strong man. We pray that the Lord gives him the strength to continue through this journey and we find a new donor as soon as possible.
