Nelda Garcia

Nelda was diagnosed with kidney disease at the age of 14. At the age of 21 her kidneys were only working at 5% of their capacity and she had to begin dialysis. After three years in dialysis, she received her first kidney transplant. Twelve years later her husband was able to donate a kidney to her. Twelve more years have gone by and she is in need of yet a 3rd kidney transplant. Nelda needs your help for this wonderful miracle to take place. The cost of uninsured transplant expenses can be staggering for things such as: co-payments for the multiple doctors’ appointments, immunosuppressant medication, relocation expenses, medical supplies, loss of wages, and bills for the home. To help with some of these uninsured expenses a fundraising campaign in Nelda’s honor has been established with HelpHOPELive (formerly NTAF), a nonprofit organization that has been assisting the transplant community for nearly 30 years. All contributions are tax deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the South-Central Kidney Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only.
