Nick Antlitz

Many of you may know Nick Antlitz, a lifetime resident of Carroll and Howard County, Maryland. On July 7th, 2008, Nick had a tragic accident in Bethany Beach, Delaware. He was playing basketball with friends and climbed to the top of the rim to swish the ball as it was tossed. He slipped and fell breaking his neck and shattering his patella in his knee. He suffered permanent damage to his spinal cord as a result of this accident. Although his neck (C6) and knee were reconstructed, he remains paralyzed from the chest down.

At age 19, Nick accomplished a great deal and was well on his way to establish a rich legacy. He strives to be the best receiving an academic scholarship to the University of Tampa, becoming an Eagle Scout, snowboarding in the Swiss Alps, and is always there as a caring person to everyone in his life. Nick will rely on his faith and strength to fight his way back to an active and productive life, “One Step at a Time.”

Nick will transition to Kennedy Krieger Institute, International Center for Spinal Cord Injury in Baltimore, Maryland, where he will undergo intensive physical rehabilitation and learn to cope with his disability. However it is very costly and we need your help.

To assist with the immense challenge of financing uninsured therapies and injury-related expenses, a fundraising campaign has been established with HelpHOPELive in Nick’s honor. For over 30 years, the nonprofit HelpHOPELive has been working with the organ/tissue transplant community. In recent years, they have expanded their mission to assist those who have sustained a catastrophic injury. All contributions are administered by HelpHOPELive exclusively for injury-related expenses. Nick demonstrates extraordinary courage and declares he will reach deep within himself to fight his way back and be everything he can be. It’s never easy to ask for help and now is certainly no exception. At times like this, the assistance of family, friends and the community is crucial for Nick to acquire the resources and tools to get him back in the game. Fundraising events will be hosted done up in “Nick Style.”
