Please Help Make a Difference

My name is Olu G. Oyefesobi, born in Nigeria and raised in Atlanta, Georgia. My life’s journey has taken me to live in several states over the years but I find myself back home in Georgia living with family. In late 2015, I received a diagnosis that stopped me in my tracks. I was shocked when a medical exam revealed that I am battling multiple sclerosis, also known as MS- a debilitating auto-immune disease (condition) widely thought to have no cure.

I have always been a hard worker. After earning a college degree, along my path to “growing up,” from hardworking student to hardworking adult, it became increasingly more difficult to take steps forward. As a former athlete and still-active individual, I had always been “in tune” with my body. Suddenly, my body sent me signals that literally slowed my footsteps and complicated my journey. It was not my intense workouts, which I reluctantly lessened. It was not simply age, which, of course, cannot be controlled. It was and still is MS.

After my initial devastation, through extensive research, I found hope — stem cell therapy for MS at StemGenex. This procedure might help reverse much of what MS has taken away. My hope was dashed when I learned Medicaid is not accepted to cover the cost of this vital procedure. Unfortunately, my freelance career, daily living expenses, and the demands of building and supporting a family, put the $28,000.00 treatment (including MRI scans, medical tests and rehabilitation services) out of my financial reach.

A hard worker by nature, I find it difficult to ask for help. But I now realize I cannot do this alone. With your help, I can obtain the treatment I desperately need. Please know, stem-cell replacement is the real difference between crawling in agony and standing with pride, walking from point A to point B, and helping others with MS when I reach my destination — which I intend to do as an advocate for others with this condition. Currently, I stumble and fall, and sometimes I need a hand getting to my feet. But, by God’s Grace, this rough patch will not last forever.
