Every Breath Matters

For most people, taking a breath is effortless. For Pamela, every breath has become a challenge.

At just 55 years old, Pamela’s life changed dramatically when she was diagnosed with systemic scleroderma, a rare autoimmune disease that has severely affected her lungs. She also battles interstitial lung disease (ILD) and pulmonary hypertension, conditions that have progressively robbed her of the ability to breathe on her own. Today, she depends on supplemental oxygen just to get through each day.

After a year of countless doctor appointments, testing, treatments, and unwavering determination, Pamela has received difficult but hopeful news: a lung transplant is now her only chance for survival.

While this transplant offers the possibility of more time with the people she loves and the opportunity to regain the quality of life that illness has taken away, the journey ahead is long, physically demanding, and financially overwhelming.

A New Challenge: Leaving Home to Save Her Life

As part of the transplant process, Pamela must relocate three hours away from her family, friends, and support systemto remain close to the transplant center before and after surgery. This temporary move is required so her medical team can closely monitor her during one of the most critical periods of her life.

Being away from home means facing significant expenses beyond medical bills, including housing, food, transportation, caregiver support, and other daily living costs—all while focusing on healing.
