Family and friends of Patrick Taylor are raising money for the nonprofit Help Hope Live to fund uninsured medical expenses associated with a kidney transplant & dialysis. Patrick has chosen to fundraise with Help Hope Live in part because donations are tax deductible for contributors and will only be used to cover medical and related expenses. Patrick’s medical expenses have been verified with nonprofit Help Hope Live through Duke Kidney Transplant Center.

Patrick is 60 years old & has chronic kidney disease, stage 5 renal failure & is in need of a kidney transplant. He had contracted a viral infection & with already having diabetes his kidney function has declined rapidly. He is currently looking for a Living Kidney Donor & you can find out more of his story on the National Kidney Registry at www.NKR.org/BNX494. Given his current kidney function Pat will be starting dialysis in the near future.

Medical expenses for the treatment of kidney diseases are enormous. Estimated amounts prior to insurance coverage for a kidney transplant (pre & post-transplant $442k). dialysis (annually $100k), immunosuppressants (monthly $53K) and the additional labs, specialist appointments, transplant centers scans & test etc can all add up.

Although Patrick currently has medical insurance through his employer, we all know with large annual deductibles & out of pocket limits the actual medical expenses do not begin to be covered until these are met. Then once met he is expected to pay 20% of each bill. This does not include out of network expenses or items they may not cover.
