Dear Friends and Family,

On April 4, 2013, Paul was blessed with a “Gift of Life” – a double lung transplant. We’re still “pinching” ourselves with regards to this miracle blessing. We daily thank God, the donor, the donor’s family, Mayo Clinic’s transplant team and staff for how awesome they have all been. We are forever grateful to them and to you.

Most of you are aware of the “roller coaster ride” that we have been on the past 5 years. We have had one physical ordeal after another between the two of us. During this “ride” we pretty much lost everything that we had worked so hard for so many years.

It is unfortunate that Paul is not able to get supplement insurance to go with his Medicare policy until he is 65. Therefore, we are responsible for 20% of all his doctor and hospital expenses. We were able to work out a minimum payment plan with Mayo Clinic. Our biggest concern is his medications. Besides having a high deductible, the co-pays are extremely costly for the “immunosuppressant” and “anti-rejection” medications that is crucial for him to take the rest of his life. Presently he is taking 26 pills a day. Unfortunately, I cannot work anymore due to suffering a ruptured brain aneurysm in 2008.

We are continuing to work with HelpHOPELive, a nonprofit organization that has been assisting the transplant community for 30 years. All donations are tax-deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the Southeast Lung Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only.
