Pearly Mao

Pearly is a loving, caring wife and an outstanding home chef. In 2021, her world came crashing down on her. Affected by COVID, her kidney shutdown (Chronic Kidney Disease Stage 5) causing her to immediately start Hemodialysis. After 4 months on Hemodialysis, she transferred to Peritoneal dialysis which is done everyday. She has been trying to manage her diet, medications and maintain an active lifestyle. She is currently active and approved on the kidney transplant list, she is waiting for a kidney donor.

As a huge foodie, Pearly loves to cook and try new recipes. She is actively searching for new and improved ways to create new dishes for her family and friends. She wants everyone to try her dish, but too shy to share among unfamiliar faces. Cheerful and helpful, she is a warm sun in the lives of everyone she has known.

Since the kidney failure, Pearly has been on a strict diet, which is hard on her schedule. She has to cook for herself rather than eat at restaurants or friends house, so she’s missing out on a lot of social time. She retains fluids at times, making her self-conscious about her looks.

Pearly is fundraising for the cost of relocating closer to her transplant team, as she will need to stay nearby for six weeks after her release from the hospital. She also will need to pay her co-insurance for the surgery and wants to be able to cover the costs for a living donor if she can find one. Pearly’s team estimates this will cost about $4,500. This amount could double or triple if she experiences any setbacks or complications.

Family and friends of Pearly Mao are raising money for the nonprofit Help Hope Live to fund uninsured medical expenses associated with a Transplant. Pearly has chosen to fundraise with Help Hope Live in part because donations are tax deductible for contributors and will only be used to cover medical and related expenses.
