Peyton is a 13 year old girl who has been living with a variety of medical conditions since birth. They include Cerebral Palsy, Hydranencephaly, Neuromuscular Scoliosis, and Epilepsy. Her struggles even began before birth with 2 strokes in-utero. At 3 months, she had emergency brain surgery to relieve pressure on her brain, which has greatly improved her quality of life and safety. She was originally only expected to live for about a year, a prognosis she has completely smashed! With continued therapy and supports, Peyton has improved her skills and connections to her family. She shows all signs of continuing to learn and grow through the upcoming years.

A sassy young lady, Peyton loves the outdoors – especially her chickens and dog. She is an animal guru, socializing the new chicks handling and spending time with them – they even sleep on her! She loves music, cuddling with her family, time in the pool, beach time, bubbles, swinging and Disney. A happy girl, she lights up the room and laughs infectiously!

Peyton eats both by mouth and through a g-tube. She is able to eat soft and moist foods, but wasn’t able to gain weight, so has been put on supplemental feeds. She likes being layered, always cold, but can’t dress herself or bury herself in blankets without help. She uses an eye-gaze system to communicate her wants and needs, as well as play games and movies.

Peyton and her family are looking to raise money for a wheelchair accessible vehicle. While she is still small for her age, she’s getting too large to safely transfer into a car. She also is getting too big for her car seat, and needs to be able to ride in her wheelchair. Her wheelchair is custom molded for her, and weighs 72 pounds. While it fits in the car, the process of getting it in and out by hand is hard on her caregivers and risks damage to the chair. She has had to replace the back, the armrest, and the anchors repeatedly over the course of its lifetime. As insurance only covers a new wheelchair every 5 years, her family needs to avoid damaging her current one as much as possible. or that reason and many more, we are raising funds for a wheelchair accessible van/SUV for our family. Unless a person has a family member with a disability, most people never realize the cost burden associated with it. Things like home modifications and accessible vehicles are not covered by insurance or by any other program. The average cost of a wheelchair accessible home is nearly double that of a multi-story home, and unfortunately, even used wheelchair accessible vehicles are at least $40,000, with new ones up to $90,000 or more. Peyton goes out on errands with her mom, as well as therapy twice a week 75 miles away. She needs a reliable and safe vehicle that will last for years to come.

With a new vehicle, Peyton can get to her appointments, and engage with her community, without risking injury to herself or her caregivers, and damage to her Wheelchair. Her family loves to go on mini-vacations regularly, and explore her community through outdoor activities and new adventures. Her bright personality and enthusiasm for life make her a valued member of her community.
