Randy Needs Our Help!

Randy Comfort suffered a heart attack in September 2007 and subsequently had a pacemaker implanted in January 2008. He suffers from cardiomyopathy, coronary artery disease and ventricular tachycardia. After eight years of Randy’s heart weakening, he was hospitalized with congestive heart failure. A heart transplant is his only hope for survival and returning to a normal lifestyle. The costs involved with a heart transplant can be overwhelming.

Randy is an awesome guy who does not let his heart issues get in the way of enjoying his life. He continues to be as active as he can, maintaining a positive attitude and never complaining! Randy met his wife Missy in 1975 while in school together and both will admit it was love at first sight. They have two children, Randy Jr. and DJ. He is also the grandfather of five very active grandchildren that he adores. Randy is anxious to receive a new heart so he can keep up with his growing grandchildren. Randy worked for Washington Penn Plastics for 25 years and retired in 2008. He enjoys cooking and helps out at the Alpine snack bar to keep busy. He loves all of the Pittsburgh teams and is a passionate fan. Together, Randy and his family are committed to seeing him through this transplant.

Randy is currently on the transplant waiting list as a status two patient, which means he will wait at home for a donor. He must take oral heart medication to keep him as stable as possible until he receives the transplant. Even with insurance, there are many costs incurred before, during, and after the transplant, that must be paid out-of-pocket including pre-testing, trips to and from the hospital, co-pays, and the astronomically expensive medications now and post-transplant. We hope you will find it in your heart to donate in any way possible to help with these expenses.

To help with the financial burden of Randy’s uninsured expenses, a fundraising campaign in his honor has been established with Help Hope Live, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years.
