Raychel Peck

Family and friends of Raychel Peck are raising money for the nonprofit Help Hope Live to fund uninsured medical expenses associated with a Catastrophic Injury. Raychel has chosen to fundraise with Help Hope Live in part because donations are tax deductible for contributors and will only be used to cover medical and related expenses.

On Saturday, January 10, Raychel was snowmobiling with her dad, brother, and boyfriend near Strawberry Reservoir. Everyone was riding their own sleds and enjoying several feet of fresh snow. While navigating a turn, Raychel’s sled was pulled off the side of the trail and down a steep hill. The sled struck a small tree, throwing her from it. Raychel hit another tree with her back, while the snowmobile continued on and crashed head-on into a larger tree.

Raychel’s dad and boyfriend were riding right behind her and immediately went to help. When they reached her, she was unconscious. They carefully laid her flat and checked for injuries. Aside from a small amount of blood coming from her mouth, there were no obvious external injuries, and her helmet showed no damage. Raychel regained consciousness and it was determined that she could be moved. Given the terrain and seriousness of the situation, they made the difficult decision to carefully transport her off the mountain to get medical help. 

Raychel was taken to Heber Valley Hospital, where doctors discovered the extent of her injuries: a broken scapula, broken ribs 1–7 (with ribs 1–3 displaced), a punctured lung, fluid in her pleural cavity, and a traumatic brain injury (TBI). Once stabilized, she was transferred by ambulance to Primary Children’s Hospital, where she spent five days in the ICU.

Since returning home, Raychel has been focused on recovery. She is currently receiving vision therapy, speech therapy, and physical therapy for her neck, and she is being monitored by a Sports Medicine Concussion Clinic to support her brain healing. Once her bones heal, she will need additional physical therapy for her shoulder and back. Raychel is also seeing a mental health therapist for PTSD and to help navigate the emotional toll and frustration that comes with her body and brain not functioning the way they used to.

Doctors expect Raychel to make a full recovery with time, rest, and continued therapy. However, the medical bills, ongoing treatments, and time away from normal life are significant. This donation page  has been created to help ease the financial burden so Raychel can focus fully on healing.
