Help make a difference in Renee Lightcap’s life.

Renee Lightcap graduated from St. Georges Technical High School in 2012 and was planning on attending culinary school to specialize in pastry and dessert preparation. A single automobile accident on May 2, 2012 left her a quadriplegic and dashed those aspirations. Renee has limited use of her arms and hands and is paralyzed from the chest down. After post-surgery stabilization, Renee was transferred to Magee Rehabilitation Hospital in Philadelphia, Pa.
To add to the family’s problems, Renee’s father had brain surgery to remove a tumor and survived lung cancer in 2000. He was forced to retire as he was left with little balance and an overall decreased ability to function. Imagine the financial difficulties that have been placed on this family.
Renee’s return home will present many challenges and even with insurance, she will have many uninsured, injury-related expenses such as: home modifications, an adaptive van, therapy, caregiver expenses, rehab sessions and specialized medical equipment. This presents a financial challenge the family cannot meet alone.
To assist with these uninsured expenses, a fundraising campaign in Renee’s honor has been established with HelpHOPELive (formerly NTAF), a nonprofit organization that has been assisting the transplant community for nearly 30 years. In 2000, they expanded their mission to include those who have sustained a catastrophic injury. All contributions are tax-deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the Mid-Atlantic Spinal Cord Injury Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for injury-related expenses only.
