Ricardo’s Story

Ricardo is a 63-year-old appliance technician who has always lived an active and hardworking life. He’s a joyful man who loves sports, especially soccer — which he played passionately in his younger years — as well as football and movies.

Unfortunately, Ricardo was diagnosed with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, a serious lung disease that causes scarring of the air sacs in the lungs. Over time, it makes it harder and harder to breathe. He was initially told he might only have 3–5 years to live, which left him devastated and afraid of leaving behind his wife, daughters, grandchildren, and the rest of his family.

With better information and renewed hope, Ricardo is now focused on fighting for his future. He is preparing for a double lung transplant, which will give him the chance to live, breathe, and move freely again.

However, the surgery and recovery come with significant costs. Ricardo is fundraising to cover:

Post-transplant medications

Approximately six weeks of hospital stay

Recovery expenses after being discharged

The estimated cost is $6,000–$10,000, but that amount may double or more if complications arise.

Ricardo believes that at any age, you can become whatever you set your mind to. His greatest hope is simple — to be able to breathe normally again, without the constant coughing or loss of oxygen. More than anything, he wants to spend his life fully present with his daughters and grandchildren, showing them the importance of strength and perseverance.
