Family and friends of Richard Garcia are raising money for the nonprofit Help Hope Live to fund uninsured medical expenses associated with a Transplant. Richard has chosen to fundraise with Help Hope Live in part because donations are tax deductible for contributors and will only be used to cover medical and related expenses.

Our family is reaching out with heavy hearts and a deep sense of urgency. The man we love—our husband and dad—is fighting for his life.

He has always carried a quiet strength. Despite a life filled with hardship, he’s remained a deeply loving and present part of our family. From a young age, he endured a painful and traumatic upbringing. In trying to cope with that pain, he turned to alcohol—something that eventually took a heavy toll on his body and, most severely, his liver.

Over the years, his health has steadily declined. And six months ago, our fears became reality when he was diagnosed with end-stage liver failure. The only hope for survival now is a liver transplant—a life-saving procedure that could give him the chance to be with his loved ones for years to come.

Our husband and dad is not perfect, but he is loved. He has tried his best in the ways he could, and we know how much he wants to be here—for his wife, his kids, and especially his grandchildren, who light up his life in ways words can’t describe. This transplant could give him the time he needs to be part of their growing lives, to create new memories, and to continue writing his story with us.

The cost of a transplant is overwhelming—from surgery to recovery, to travel and time off for caregivers. We are doing everything we can, but we can’t do it alone.
