Rickey Powell

Dear Friends and Family,

Many of you know our Dad, Rickey Powell. He is a wonderful father and good friend to many. He has been a resident of Birmingham for most of his life. He is very active in his church and is always helping others. Our Dad loves teaching and entertaining. However, due to his poor health, he is no longer able to work or do many of the things he always enjoyed.

What you may not know is that for many years, Dad has been suffering from end stage renal failure. He is on dialysis and his doctors at Emory University Hospital have told us that his only chance of survival is a life-saving kidney transplant.

Our family has come to realize that even with insurance, funding this surgery is a monumental task since there are many expenses that must be paid out of pocket. Some of these are deductibles, co-pays, travel to and from the transplant center and Dad will be on a life-time of anti-rejection medications. This is where your help is desperately needed.

A fundraising campaign in Dad’s honor has been established with HelpHOPELive (formerly NTAF), a nonprofit organization that has been assisting the transplant community for nearly 30 years. All donations are tax deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the Southeast Kidney Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only.
