***URGENT UPDATE – AUGUST 12, 2026***

AMAZING GRACE! Bob has received the call with the good news that God has answered our prayers and a kidney match has been found due to his wife Tammy having donated her kidney four months ago into the National Kidney Foundation living donor program. The blessed transplant is set for August 20th at Porter Advent hospital in Denver, CO. He is required to stay in Denver, near the hospital for a month following surgery for continued observation. Unfortunately, not all expenses are paid by insurance and must be covered by the family.

It is humbling to ask for this assistance, however, any contributions would be greatly appreciated.

Robert (Bob) Castro is a “local” of Steamboat Springs, CO living here with his wife Tammy, his stepdaughter Shilah and his mother-in-law Sally. He is also the doting father to his big, loving golden retriever Prince, and 3 mischievous, mysterious but also loving cats Stormie, Minko Chito, and Precious.

Bob is well known in his community not only for all of the jobs he has held serving the public (city bus driver, CDOT snow plow driver, Waste Management driver, and Apex dispatcher), but most of all for his heart for his community, family, friends, and church family.

He is always ready to greet you with a smile and a deep and sincere sense of kindness and empathy straight from his heart. He was once described by a local pastor as “having the heart of the “Father” (God).

Bob volunteers for community service opportunities, such as highway trash pick up, local bike races, parades and food collection for local food banks.

He is a very gifted singer and guitar player and has led worship services in various churches.

Bob currently is in severe kidney failure and needs the help of his community. He was born with a kidney disorder and was not expected to live past his early childhood. BUT GOD had other plans for Bob’s life, and knew he was made for so much more. Bob had his first kidney transplant 23 years ago with his beautiful stepdaughter Sarah donating a matching kidney. He was able to live life to the fullest and love others to the fullest until that kidney stopped functioning well in 2022.

He now must perform hemodialysis most days of the week that takes 3 to 4 hours a day and makes him very weak and ill. He struggles to continue working and helping to support his home and family needs and always puts his own needs last .

Bob must have a kidney transplant to live and still has at least 7 or more years on the regular kidney transplant list. But God in his love and grace has overcome the biggest hurdle of all, finding a kidney donor! He has waited for about two years with no real hope in sight. But he never stopped believing in his faithful Lord.

And it turns out the kidney he needs for a transplant will be available very soon because his wife, Tammy, who loves him with her life, has been accepted after almost a year of rigorous medical tests to donate a kidney! God continues to work miracles in this kidney journey. Tammy will be donating her AB+ kidney to an unknown recipient in the donor exchange/voucher program on March 31, 2026. On that day, after her kidney donation, Bob gets added to the living donor program for one of the next O- kidneys that become available! Hallelujah!

Bob and his family need your financial assistance to help cover the many costs of a kidney transplant that are not covered by insurance. There are funds needed for a 6 week stay/live in Denver after his transplant to be close to the hospital; there is elder care and pet care needed at home while he is recovering, there are lost wages of Tammy, who will be his caretaker as well as the loss of his own wages. There are travel and food expenses, and the uncovered insurance copays for treatment and medications.
