Dear Friends and Family,
I am writing you today to let you know my husband Bobby is suffering from end-stage renal failure and desperately needs to find a living donor for a life-saving kidney transplant. Have you ever thought that today might be the day you make a difference in someone’s life? Maybe you have thought that one day you would like to have a role in saving a life. These days I wake up with that very thought.
Bobby was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease (CKD) several years ago and the disease quickly advanced. In addition to the CKD, he also has Type II diabetes that was inherited from his father’s side of the family. Bobby lost his dad in 1991 and his brother in 2007, both due to complications from diabetes and kidney failure. We are just shy of our second wedding anniversary and I do not want to lose him.
On September 12, 2013, Bobby started the transplant evaluation process at Georgetown University Medical Center. During this time, we learned of the thousands who are currently on the active waiting list and have been waiting for many, many years. The pre-transplant team informed us that finding a living donor is our very best option for getting a new kidney. Therefore, my campaign to find a living kidney donor began.
Thankfully, Bobby has health insurance. However, once we find a kidney donor, he will still have numerous uninsured transplant –related expenses and so a fundraising campaign in his honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a nonprofit organization that has been assisting the transplant community for 30 years. All contributions are tax-deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the Mid-Atlantic Kidney Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only.
