My name is Robert Kraucunas, I’m a 47 year old father of 4 and 2 grand children.
I was diagnosed with interstitial lung disease, pulmonary fibrosis, and NSIP. In July 2023, I was recommended to UW Madison for a lung transplant list from the specialist in Sterling, Illinois. I had my week long evaluation for lung transplant on December 5th through the 8th, and I’m finding out that a lot of these medicines won’t fully be covered under my insurance and my medicines I need to take for the rest of my life. My support person needs to stay down with me through the transplant and getting the rehabilitation going. I have to stay close to Madison for six to eight weeks, could be even longer depending on how I’m recovering. I’ve never been one to ask for help in anything in my life and I’m having a hard time asking for help right now, but it is overwhelming to deal with lung transplant and wondering about having the funds to cover the cost of staying somewhere while I’m in recovery.
