ROBERT NEEDS YOUR SUPPORT!

Robert was diagnosed with glioblastoma brain cancer in January 2016. It resulted in an acquired brain injury and several physical deficits, including a left arm amputation which prohibits him from using a manual wheelchair.

He can walk short distances with a cane and is a safe driver. He currently has no signs of cancer remaining. He has brain scans every 6 months to keep updated.

Robert loves to go to church and has a very outgoing personality and great sense of humor. He also enjoys being out in his neighborhood on his power wheelchair meeting new people, sharing his faith and enjoying nature. His fierce determination to never give up and push farther than expected.

Robert is also a volunteer mentor for the brain cancer community. He enjoys encouraging others newly diagnosed with brain cancer.

Robert struggles with left side weakness. He can’t walk long distances and sometimes even short distances are a challenge for him. His left knee buckles suddenly and with no warning and causes him to fall. Sometimes he finds it difficult to get himself to doctor appointments because he can’t get his manual wheelchair out of the trunk on his own. People aren’t always available to help because although he is mostly independent he lives alone.

Robert is fundraising for a vehicle that allows him to load his very heavy power chair and move to the drivers seat. This would allow him the freedom to get himself to and from his appointments and be able to do his grocery shopping. The price of such a vehicle costs anywhere from $30,000 to $45,000 for a reliable, refurbished vehicle to be able to load a wheelchair.

Having reliable transportation that allows him to to load his wheelchair would allow Robert to be able to get to his doctor and physical therapy appointments and to socialize with friends and his community like he was once able to do. Robert has recently been recertified by the state of Alabama to drive and easily passed his written and driving test.
