Robert Segura

Family and friends of Robert Segura are raising money for the nonprofit Help Hope Live to fund uninsured medical expenses associated with transplantation.

I am a little sister to Robert, and I love my brother. I am starting this campaign to do something for him that he won’t do for himself. Let me start by telling you about Robert. My brother has always had the biggest heart and could make anyone laugh that he is around or on the phone with. He has a beautiful family and has always put them and others before himself. To meet Robert is like meeting a friend you know you will have for life.

This disease is not taking over his life. He gets up every day and takes on life like everyone else. He does chores around the house, goes to the grocery, department store, and loves going to the swap meet just to be able to look around and find little treasures. He does not depend on anyone to do any of these things for him. I know that he enjoys being with his family whether it be on the phone or hanging out having breakfast, lunch or dinner. He will always lift you up if you are down with his jokes and laughter. You can feel the big heart that he has when you are with him. He loves everyone that he meets or is very close to him.

My brother means the world to me and I want to make sure that he will not have to stress about finances, medical expenses after he becomes a transplant recipient. So why does Robert need a transplant? He was diagnosed about 18 months ago with cirrhosis of the liver along with accompanying medical conditions. This is a result of previous life choices that he made but he has realized that those choices have brought him in need of the transplant. He has decided to change his lifestyle to make himself an eligible candidate for the transplant. He has made his family very proud about his new choices in life and that we will be able to celebrate his new life that he will receive. Seeing his mother thrive after her liver transplant has motivated him to take this disease head on and put himself through the medical procedures and strictly clean lifestyle to be here for his family in the future.

That is why I am here to start this fundraiser and hopefully give him some peace of mind through the struggles he and his family are about to endure. He himself would never ask for a helping hand. But I believe in times of need, family and community can come together to shine a little light on someone’s darkest days.
