Robert Needs Our Help!

My husband, Robert Sharp is a 54-year-old Cleveland Heights resident who is very ill. He is currently on the kidney transplant waiting list at the Cleveland Clinic. Robert is a diabetic who has also been diagnosed with congestive heart failure. Robert is one of the kindest people you’d ever hope to meet. After many years of helping others, Robert is now the one who needs the help of his family, friends and community. The cost of a transplant and the medications that are needed for the rest of his life can be overwhelming! Robert is currently on over 30 medications, some of which are very costly. He needs our help!

Robert was released after a two month hospital stay where he was in a coma for over three weeks. At one point during his stay the doctors actually called me and told me that Robert had little time left and to call in the family to say their goodbyes! Robert is a very strong man and proved the doctors wrong by getting better that very day. This was done by his strong will to live, faith, and lots of prayer!

Robert has lived in Cleveland Heights the majority of his life. He worked as a chef in many local restaurants before his illness forced him to stop working. Robert attended Cleveland Heights High School where he met many of the friends he still has today. He is married and has a sixteen-year-old daughter that is the light of his life. Together, Robert and his family are committed to seeing him through this transplant.

Transplants are life-saving but financially draining. Even with insurance, Robert is facing very high expenses that include post-transplant anti-rejection medications he will need to take for the rest of his life, some up to $1,200 a month; co-pays; lab fees; and more! This is a challenge Robert cannot face alone!

To help with the financial burden of Robert’s uninsured expenses, a fundraising campaign in his honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the Great Lakes Kidney Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses. Robert’s greatest joy is his daughter, who is entering the eleventh grade this year. He is without a doubt the best dad, husband, son, brother, uncle, and friend one could ever wish for! If we all work together we can make Robert’s prospects for the future look much brighter. Please know that your contribution counts.
