MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN ROB’S LIFE

Dear Friends and Family:
As many of you already know, for the past several years, my son, Rob has been courageously battling end-stage renal disease. For two years now, Rob has been on dialysis three days per week, 3-4 hours per day. This is keeping him alive. Though he is doing fairly well on this treatment, there are many undesirable side effects and he is unable to work. His only shot at a long and healthy life is to receive a kidney transplant as soon as possible.

Rob has been on the active transplant list at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana, since August, 2011. He is also being evaluated by The Ohio State University Transplant Center to see if he qualifies to be on the kidney transplant list there as well. Despite having Medicare, many of Rob’s medical needs are not covered and must be paid out of pocket. Due to his inability to work, funding this life-saving operation is a monumental task. The hospital is requiring that Rob have at least $3000 to $5000 set aside just to remain on an active list. After the transplant, Rob will need this money for the immunosuppressant medications he will take for the rest of his life and for frequent post-transplant trips to and from the transplant center. This presents a challenge Rob cannot meet alone.
To help with his uninsured costs, a fundraising campaign in Rob’s honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a nonprofit organization that has been assisting the transplant community for 30 years. All contributions are tax-deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the Great Lakes Kidney Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only.
