Ross Callender

Hi everyone, thanks for being here for Ross. Ross is a 67-year-old retired library consultant who supported primarily rural communities.  Until very recently, he was enjoying his golden years. On July 3rd, he was rushed to a Phoenix hospital with a severe foot infection where it was decided that a below the knee amputation needed to be performed immediately.

Ross loves to explore as he enjoys understanding history, learning new cultures and meeting people.  He likes to share cheers and goodwill wherever he visits.  Ross loves to walk, whether it is in his local neighborhood or somewhere discovering new places. A normal year will have him logging about 1400 miles as he enjoys being outside walking through cities, or anywhere in nature. 

Since the amputation, Ross has been struggling with any movement as he is very weak and has erratic side issues with his blood pressure and heart. Right now, he is limited to a wheelchair which you can imagine is frustrating as two months ago he was averaging about a 100 miles/month walking.

Ross is fundraising for several critical non-covered items since June and over the next six months.  He will need to be in a group home for several months to facilitate recovery and will require physical and occupational therapy as well as home health services. There are also four new medications he will take daily. Then there is the matter of the prosthesis and all the training that goes with it. Some of this is covered by insurance, most of it is not as he lived abroad.

Ross is hopeful that the ongoing treatment plan will allow him to get back to his independent living and his walking and exploring days. It is going to take some time but with your help, Ross is sure he can reach his goals.

Family and friends of Ross Callender are raising money for the nonprofit Help Hope Live to fund uninsured medical expenses associated with a Catastrophic Illness. Ross has chosen to fundraise with Help Hope Live in part because donations are tax deductible for contributors and will only be used to cover medical and related expenses.
