Roy Hackman

Roy Hackman, a loving father to five daughters, desperately needs your help. Roy was born with a genetic and inherited condition called Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency. Alpha-1 is passed from parents to children through genes, and usually results in progressive lung and liver disease. Please go to https://www.alpha1.org/what-is-alpha to learn more. As early as 1992, Roy began to notice many symptoms of Alpha-1, feeling very short of breath. Over the years, his symptoms began to worsen and he experienced wheezing, chronic bronchitis, and allergies. Roy eventually developed liver disease with severely elevated liver enzymes, and has continued to grow sicker and sicker each day. Physicians have now informed Roy that his organs are at a point that they must be replaced, and Roy must undergo a lifesaving Double Lung transplant. Without a transplant, his time will quickly run out, and Roy will soon be out of options.

Roy is the proud father to five daughters, ranging in age from 17 to 37, and blessed with eight adorable grandchildren. Roy worked hard in a career in lumber sales and even had the opportunity to work as a store manager for a few years. He has spent countless hours coaching his daughter’s softball games and later volunteered in his local community as a football coach. Roy has literally spent his life raising his family and giving to others, but now it is time to reach out and help Roy!

Transplants are lifesaving but very expensive and Roy cannot afford his transplant without your support. While he undergoes extensive medical testing to undergo transplant at Cleveland Clinic, Roy’s out-of-pocket expenses are quickly adding up; these include co-pays and deductibles, health insurance premiums, lab fees and travel expenses. When Roy undergoes his transplant, he will also be required to temporarily relocate closer to the hospital, and will need a caregiver. Travel, lodging, meals, and housing expenses will be a lot for Roy to handle alone and he will need lifelong, post-transplant, anti-rejection medications for the rest of his life. These medications are very expensive and Roy is asking from the bottom of his heart for your help.
