Royetta Needs Your Help

Royetta Felicia Moore had dealt with type 1 diabetes and chronic kidney disease from a young age. Diabetes is a disease in which the body does not make any or enough insulin to carry sugar throughout the blood. Stage 5 kidney disease is also referred to a ESRD (End Stage Renal Disease). This is when the kidneys do not filter blood normally, therefore, dialysis is needed.

Royetta was diagnosed with stage 5 kidney failure and began dialysis. A few months after starting dialysis, Royetta was diagnosed with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Lupus is a chronic autoimmune disease that occurs when the body’s immune system attacks its own tissues and organs.

Royetta graduated from Britton’s Neck High School in 1995 and then attended Coastal Carolina University where she majored in Early Childhood Education. She became a teacher and earned her master’s degree in 2006. Royetta is no longer working as a kindergarten teacher, but continues to do various activities for the church. With all that Royetta has been through during the past year, her faith in God through Jesus Christ has increased and she knows that God wants her to be strong and of a good courage (Joshua 1:9) as she handles these diseases.

Fortunately, Royetta has received her kidney and a pancreas in June 2017 completed by the transplant specialists at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.

The process of receiving a transplant is costly, even with insurance, and Royetta will need as much help as she can receive in order to pay for travel, medications, and other expenses that may not be covered by insurance.

To help with the financial burden of Royetta’s uninsured expenses, a fundraising campaign in her honor has been established with Help Hope Live, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax-deductible to the full extent allowed by law, are held by Help Hope Live in the South-Atlantic Transplant Fund, and are administered by Help Hope Live for transplant-related expenses only.
