S.O.S. – Get on Board to help R. Dennis

R. Dennis Alvarado’s life set sail into troubled waters in December, 2011. A diagnosis of pneumonia turned out to be an incurable autoimmune disease known as polymyositis. The polymyositis settled into his lungs as his immune system attacked the muscles throughout his body. By 2013, he required oxygen 24/7 and in Aug. 2016, when his lung function reached 21%, he was told a transplant would be needed ASAP. He worked hard to strengthen his body for lung transplantation. R. Dennis received his bi-lateral lung transplant on October 27, 2016 and thanks to a magnificent surgeon and transplant team, he now breathes without the use of external oxygen! Although it is too soon to know how the polymyositis will react with new lungs, he is very optimistic, yet very concerned about uncovered medical expenses.
R. Dennis is in desperate need of your help!

R. Dennis was employed in the HVAC business since 1976. For 40 years, he worked keeping the public and private sectors comfortable. Some in West Texas and others in the Austin area may remember R. Dennis because of his work ethic and efforts, his Christian Faith and belief in God, or perhaps through the love of his life – Wife Diann, or many wonderful Friends and Acquaintances.

At 59 years of age and having dedicated his life to the service of providing comfort to others, R. Dennis is now in a situation of needing help. Uncovered medical services, anti-rejection medicines, copays and deductibles not covered by Medicare or his supplemental plan are increasing daily and are consistently most difficult to contend with.

To help offset such expenses, a fundraising campaign in R.Dennis’ honor has been established with Help Hope Live, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax-deductible to the full extent allowed by law, are held by Help Hope Live in the South-Central Lung Transplant Fund, and are administered by Help Hope Live for transplant-related expenses only.
