Ryan Murphy

Any one who knows Ryan can’t help but be captivated by his energy,  love for life and all that it has to offer.

In 2017 Ryan was diagnosed with end stage heart failure and subsequently given an L-VAD to help circulate blood through out his body in hopes of eventually receiving a heart transplant. For the next several years, Ryan adjusted his life to fit his medical needs. He had to stop working, maintained strict guidelines to stay healthy through a global pandemic and fought every day to stay positive despite his failing body. (If anyone saw Ryan during these years, you know how he rocked that battery pack bag, and binder.)

In 2021, despite everyone’s expectations, Ryan was deemed healthy enough to have his L-VAD removed, seemingly healing his heart. This is referred to as “a bridge to recovery” and only happens in 1-2% of patients. As you can imagine, this gave Ryan a new lease on life and lit a fire in him to work hard and appreciate his second chance.

At the end of 2024, Ryan began having symptoms of heart failure again. Crushed by this realization he was admitted several times into the cardiac unit at MMC for fluid around his heart and eventually Cardiogenic shock. Ryan was then life flighted to Tufts Medical Center in Boston where they told him his heart was not able to sustain his other organs, his blood pressures were too low and he was effectively dying.

Morale was not high, and it took many weeks of loving attention and advocacy on the part of his mom, Kim, to see him through end stage heart failure once again.

On Mother’s Day of this year, Ryan finally received his donor heart. He is currently in the cardiac ICU of Tufts Medical Center, and healing well. He has a long road to recovery, and a lifetime of adjustments to maintain his newest lease on life.

Family and friends of Ryan Murphy are raising money for the nonprofit Help Hope Live to fund uninsured medical expenses associated with a Transplant. Ryan has chosen to fundraise with Help Hope Live in part because donations are tax deductible for contributors and will only be used to cover medical and related expenses.

Our goal is to make sure Ryan and his caregivers are able to stay near Tufts for his recovery and to help offset the daily expenses that have accumulated over the last 8 weeks he has been inpatient.
