I NEED YOUR HELP!

Hello. I am here asking for your help as a 28 year old who has survived a stroke. I never thought I’d be in this kind of position, where I needed to ask others for help financing my medical care.

I come from a middle class family and all my life I’ve been fortunate enough to be covered by my parents’ great health insurance. I have been extremely fortunate to have good insurance coverage due to growing up with complicated medical diagnoses. I was born with congenital heart block and received a pacemaker at five months old. I have struggled with mental health issues, TMJ, chronic headaches, and chronic migraines since high school.

After graduating college I was diagnosed with lupus and fibromyalgia. I was later diagnosed with raynaud’s syndrome (which likes to come along with the lupus), chronic pain, and chronic fatigue.

All of those medical conditions suck, that’s true. But, I was able to get the care that I needed to keep going, until the combination of mental and physical conditions became too overwhelming. I was unable to work for roughly three years due to everything. Eventually I applied for and received SSDI (disability) and I received extended coverage for health insurance, due to disability.

But, nothing lasts forever. I am now receiving Medicare. As we all know, Medicare doesn’t provide much coverage, and any care that you receive via Medicare costs a fair amount.

That’s why I’m here asking for help, like millions of Americans who lack decent health coverage and who cannot afford to pay for the treatment they need.

I am asking for help to cover my medical expenses while my doctors and I try to find out what caused this stroke. Funds raised would also help cover medical expenses for whatever time it will take to complete as full a recovery as possible.

A month after my initial stroke I had a TIA (Transient Ischemic Attack). These are often referred to as mini strokes, not because they are any less frightening or dangerous, but because the duration of symptoms is much shorter. The TIA I experienced felt just like my first stroke, but the symptoms lasted around 45 seconds to a minute.

I’m scared. During my stroke I felt trapped in my own body. Anytime I feel the slightest tingling sensation in my arm or face I’m afraid it’s another stroke. It’s scary to not feel safe in your own body.
