Sam Shea

My name is Sam Shea. I am 64 years old and have been married to my wife, Anne, for 35 years.

We live an active life on our farm in Pennsdale, Pennsylvania, where we operate Trinity Farm, a

dog and horse boarding business. We both love the outdoors and farm life, and we actually met

as teenagers at a horse show.

We have two wonderful grown sons, Bryan and Everett, who live in Tennessee and Texas. I also

work full-time at PMF Industries in Williamsport as the Lead in the Human Resources

Department.

I have always considered myself a very active and energetic person, but I am currently facing a

serious health challenge-Chronic Kidney Disease. My kidney problems began as a result of a

previous autoimmune disease, and unfortunately the condition has progressed to Stage 5 kidney

disease. Because of this, I now need a kidney transplant.

My wife Anne has selflessly stepped forward to donate her kidney so that I can receive a life-

saving transplant. We have entered the Paired Kidney Exchange Program at UPMC in

Pittsburgh. through this program, Anne will donate her kidney to someone in need, while

another donor will provide a compatible kidney for me on the same day.

I have been told that I may be only weeks away from needing dialysis, so we are hoping the

transplant can happen very soon. Our hope is that the transplant will allow me to return to a more normal life,

working without constant fatigue and muscle cramps and eventually getting back to some of the

activities I enjoy, like riding my motorcycles.

Following the transplant, I will need to stay in Pittsburgh for approximately 4 weeks after

being released from the hospital. During this time we will face a number of expenses, including

insurance costs, travel, lodging, meals, medications, and additional expenses related to the living

donor process.
