Move Samuel Forward: Not Letting a Traumatic Brain Injury Hold Him Back!!

Sam was born as a naturally funny, good-natured, and motivated person. You never knew what funny thing would come out of his mouth like when he was five years old and I told him he did a good job and he replied, “well butter my backside and call me a biscuit!” He was always laughing and/or making you laugh.

Around thirteen years of age, Sam shoveled snow in the winter to make money and did yard work in the summer. In addition, he was an active Boy Scout as well as active in his church and school which meant constant community service projects such as the Flagstaff Family Food Center.

Then, in February of 2018, when Sam was thirteen, we were rear ended in a car accident and nothing has been the same or like it was before the car accident.

Sam is now disabled.

Every day is a struggle for him: all he can focus on is basic life survival such as getting out of bed, eating, etc. He can no longer attend public school, drive, or other normal teenage things. He is no longer my funny, easy going son. He is in constant pain, suffers from insomnia, has seizures, and medical events where he ends up in the Intensive Care Unit and/or is life-flighted to Phoenix, not to count endless emergency room visits often by ambulance.

Our goal is for him to receive state of the art brain scan imaging in Los Angeles, California so that, in combination with evaluations, testing, and lab studies, he can receive targeted treatment.

He still desires to help people and wants to be a forensic psychologist.
