Help Sarah say Goodbye to MS!

Sarah Darby-Wright is a 36 year old mother of four who has been battling Multiple Sclerosis since 2008. Her relapses have become more frequent, and even life-threatening, causing her to be paralyzed, unable to speak or eat, and all while suffering from vision and hearing loss. While there is no cure for MS, Sarah is hoping to halt the progression of this horrible disease by receiving a procedure called HSCT; a transplant of stem cells harvested from her own body. While this procedure is giving hope to millions of individuals suffering from MS, Sarah’s insurance does not cover it, and the cost of such a live-saving transplant is overwhelming.

Sarah was born and raised in the metro Detroit area, and graduated from Walled Lake Western HS. She went on to become a Medical Assistant and Patient Care Technician, working at several area hospitals including the University of Michigan Health System. She struggled for years working as a single parent all while fighting severe fatigue and physically disabling relapses. Her MS has become increasing aggressive over the years. Her family has graciously stepped in to help with her children, but Sarah looks forward to the day when she will be well enough to provide for her children independently once again.

HSCT is life-saving, but can be financially draining. Without insurance coverage for this procedure, Sarah is facing very high cost of $54,500 for the procedure at Clinica Ruiz in Mexico. She has been denied by American doctors because she has the sickle cell trait. Clinica Ruiz specializes in hematology and internal medicine. Their expertise in hematology is the reason they are able to handle her more complicated case.
