Meet Savana Oberts

My daughter Savana, 23, was a junior at Western Washington University in Bellingham, WA studying East Asian Studies in May 2011 when her small intestine developed a knot, cut off the blood supply and subsequently died. It immediately had to be removed and now, Savana’s only chance for survival is a small intestine transplant.

Savana is currently on medical leave from school and has moved back home to Lakebay, WA while awaiting a transplant at the University of Washington Medical Center. She is constantly nauseous and she must receive all her nutrition from her nightly IV. All her medications and hydration is also through her IV. Because of the IV nutrition, she is now is need of a liver as well.

While Savana has insurance, there are still many uninsured expenses related to the transplant such as: co-pays and deductibles, doctor visits, travel to and from the transplant center, and the costly immunosuppressant medications she will have to take for the rest of her life.

To help offset some of these expenses, a fundraising campaign in Savana’s honor has been established with Help Hope Live. Help Hope Live is a nonprofit organization that has been assisting the transplant community for more than 30 years. All donations are tax-deductible to the full extent allowed by law and are administered by Help Hope Live for transplant-related expenses only.
