A Blind Student Fighting for His Future — Help Sayed Continue His Education and Access Life-Saving Medical Care ⸻ Hello everyone, My name is Sayed Sadat, and I am a 21-year-old student living in San Diego. Writing this message is very difficult for me, but today I truly need help. I am legally blind because of a rare genetic eye disease called Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP). This disease takes away vision over time, and doctors say it will continue to worsen. My world has already become very small. I live with severe tunnel vision and complete night blindness. Even during the day I must rely on a white cane to walk safely. Simple things that most people never think about—walking safely, finding objects, or navigating unfamiliar places—are daily struggles for me. Despite all of this, I am still trying to move forward with my life and my education. I am currently studying at Grossmont College, and I dream of continuing my studies in Biology. Education is my hope for the future. I want to prove that blindness does not mean a person’s life or dreams must end. My family and I came to the United States in 2024 searching for safety and better medical care. Today we are six people living together in a small rented apartment in San Diego. The cost of living here is extremely high, and paying rent alone has become very difficult for us. I am the oldest child in my family, and I also have younger siblings who still depend on our parents. My mother is sick, and this makes our situation even more difficult. My father tries to work, but because of our circumstances he can only work a limited amount, and his income is not enough to support all of us. Living with blindness is already extremely challenging, but the financial pressure on our family is overwhelming. Rent, basic living expenses, and medical needs continue to increase while our resources remain very limited. My doctor has told me that I urgently need many medical tests and genetic evaluations to understand my condition and determine whether I may qualify for future treatments or clinical trials that could help slow the progression of my blindness. Unfortunately, many of these tests are not available where I live, which means I must travel to other places for specialized testing and medical evaluations. These trips require transportation, temporary housing, and medical costs that are extremely difficult for my family to afford. The funds raised through this campaign will help cover: • Travel for medical tests and specialized evaluations • Temporary lodging and food during medical trips • Genetic testing and other important medical exams • Assistive tools that help me continue my education • Basic support so my family can remain stable during this difficult time Asking for help is one of the hardest things I have ever done. But I am fighting not only for my health, but also for my future, my education, and my family.
