Our Journey: A Fight for Life and Hope

My son is 24 years old. He is not just my child, but also a cherished brother, a caring uncle, and a beloved grandson. His gentle spirit, sense of humor, and unwavering love have touched the lives of everyone in our family. Today, we are reaching out to our community and beyond, hoping to find the help that could mean the difference between despair and renewed hope: a living kidney donor.

Meet My Son: A Life Full of Promise

It’s Sean’s kindness, curiosity, resilience, humor, and thoughtfulness, and the love for his dogs, friends, and family, that makes him truly special, despite all he is going through.  He has a fantastic sense of humor and a knack for making people laugh—whether he’s telling silly jokes or playing with his two nieces making silly noises and faces while they giggle. He is incredibly thoughtful and surprises family members with small acts of kindness, the most memorable, lavishing them with gifts at Christmas.  Sean has many friends, and he used to have an active social life but had to slow down since he got sick.  He is determined to reclaim his health and life to get back to having a normal social life doing the things he used to love doing.  Like traveling to participate in Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) events all over the state of Michigan, having fun wrestling matches with his friends, walking on his hands all the way up and down long hallways, amongst many other things he would love to have the strength to do again.

Facing the Challenge

A diagnosis of kidney failure has changed the course of my son’s life. At such a young age, he now faces daily challenges that most people cannot imagine. Dialysis treatments are grueling, and while they keep him alive, they also limit his ability to truly live. He dreams of returning to work, traveling, and spending more time with his friends and family. But these dreams have been put on hold as he waits for a miracle: a living kidney donor.

The Search for a Living Kidney Donor

While deceased donor kidneys are a blessing for many, the wait can be long—sometimes years. Living donation offers our son a chance for a healthier, longer life and a shorter wait. The surgery for donors is safe and the vast majority recover fully, carrying the satisfaction of knowing they have saved a life.

The Financial Burden

While insurance covers some costs, the expenses surrounding a kidney transplant are tremendous. These include travel to and from the transplant center, lodging during recovery, anti-rejection medications, ongoing post-transplant care, and living donor expenses. The financial strain is daunting, and it is clear that he cannot do this alone.

Help Hope Live is a nonprofit organization dedicated to assisting people like Sean who face significant medical expenses due to transplantation, catastrophic injury, or illness. Through their guidance, we can fundraise responsibly, and your donations go directly toward his  transplant-related expenses.
