SEMAJORIE’S STORY

Semajorie Hunter, 37, is a native of Norfolk, Virginia, now residing in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. She was diagnosed with a lung disease called sarcoidosis in 2007 and by 2010 she was told she had a life expectancy of five years if she didn’t receive a lung transplant. She has endured numerous tests, surgeries and is on oxygen all day. Once the evaluations were complete her doctors determined she is a good candidate for the lung transplant program in Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA.

Funding this life-saving operation is a monumental task. Even with Medicaid, Semajorie will have many uninsured medically-related expenses such as: co-pays and deductibles, doctor visits and the expensive immunosuppressant medications she will need to take for the rest of her life. These expenses present a financial challenge Semjorie cannot meet alone.

To help pay for the uninsured medically related expenses associated with transplantation, family and friends of Semajorie have established a fundraising campaign through HelpHopeLive, a nonprofit organization that has been assisting the transplant community for 30 years. All donations are tax-deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the Mid-Atlantic Lung Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only.
