I NEED YOUR HELP!

My name is Shalma Morris and I’m a mother of 3. I was diagnosed with peripheral T cell lymphoma on January 5, 2024 and my family has been struggling since the diagnosis. I had to stop my nursing job the December prior and my husband had to take long breaks from work to care for me.

I started conventional chemotherapy in January because they said the cancer is aggressive, but I couldn’t tolerate that chemotherapy protocol. I was in and out of the hospital pretty frequently and my body started to rapidly decline. I sought out a treatment center in Arizona and started targeted chemotherapy with immunotherapy in February.

I am utilizing fundraising platforms, like Help Hope Live, for financial assistance because the treatment protocol is not covered by insurance and I have exhausted all my resources.

When I started to look into the current treatment program I relocated to, I thought the cost was $70,000.00 which was more than I had but I got some family support. After the consultation I was told that my treatment time will need to be doubled and so the cost became $140,000.00.

My family and I started with what we had and I asked the Lord for “faith bigger than an avocado seed” because I wanted to live, my youngest child is 10.

I’m fourth in the line of 13 children and I saw my mom do a lot on faith. God has carried me all my life even before I left home in Jamaica; everything I needed I took it to him in prayer and he saw me through.

I came to the US when I was 18 with plans to go to nursing school. Those plans got delayed as I started having children. I never gave up on my dream to be a nurse because I’ve known since about age 7 that that was my calling. I love people and I’m a patient person. I can always put myself in the other person’s shoes because we are supposed to feel for each other and be our brother’s keeper. I’m used to not having plenty but one can do a lot with whatever little they have.

I always ask the Lord to use me as his instrument. I was an usher in church and would cook for the elderly that were sick and shut-in. My only formal charity is Compassion International, where I have been sponsoring four children around the world since I became a nurse in 2019. I have since paused this sponsorship due to my hardship.

I am reaching out to you in faith because that’s all I have left and I’m seeking to grow it. Christ said in Matthew 7:7, “Ask, and it shall be given you seek and you shall find, knock and it shall be opened unto you.”
