Shamika Truesdale

Shamika Truesdale was born 39 years ago in Kannapolis, NC. She is the big sister to two siblings, and at the age of 18, she was diagnosed with Type I Diabetes. As the result of her diagnosis, Shamika has been faced with numerous complications such as high blood pressure, Gastroparesis, and Myositis, resulting in inflammation of her skeletal muscles. She also has battled a blood disorder called Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (TTP). The treatments involved mild chemotherapy, many plasma infusions, blood transfusions and the removal of her spleen.

Since receiving a diagnosis of renal failure a little over a 9 years ago, Shamika has been doing hemodialysis three days a week. In 2012, she was blessed with a Kidney/Pancreas transplat. Unfortunately, thekidney failed in December 2013 due to unforseen complications.

Her doctors informed her that another kidney transplant was her only way to insure a long and healthy life. After undergoing the necessary transplant evaluations at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital and Carolinas Medical Center, it was determined that Shamika was a good candidate for a transplant. Through it all, Shamika remains steadfast and strong in her faith that God has her back.
